We present a new method to calculate the continuum beta function in gauge theories, using the gradient flow and p-regime simulations. The infinite volume renormalization scheme has the flow time as its only scale and determines the beta function in the strong coupling regime relevant for the spectrum with spontaneously broken chiral symmetry. This bridges the gap between other methods using simulations with massless fermions at weaker coupling in finite volume before the chiral symmetry broken phase is reached. The method is generally applicable, in particular we present results for the beta function of the two flavor sextet composite Higgs model.
